Pulaski County has a population of over 60,000 residents, and is projected to become the most populous county in Kentucky by the year 2010. The county seat is the town of Somerset, and the total area is 677 square miles. Most of the county is dry, with strict prohibitions on serving alcoholic beverages to the public. The county is named after Count Kazimierz Pulaski, a Polish solider and politician who is commonly known as “the father of the American cavalry”.

Pulaski County was established in 1798, and is situated along the Cumberland River. The land is drained by the Cumberland River, the Rockcastle River, and the South Fork, White Oak, Buck Pitman, and Fishing Creeks. The elevations range from 600 feet to 1,325 feet above sea level, and the soil is mostly red clay. The county is known for its scenic landscape and many springs dotted throughout the area.

The Kentucky State Park System includes twenty four state recreation parks that offer a variety of activities like camping, fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding and more. Lake Cumberland is also an option for residents looking for a great spot for skiing, boating, and fishing. The state park system also has a Golf Trail that consists of 19 state park golf courses and a newly renovated golf course at General Burnside Island. The area has thousands of coves and miles of shoreline to discover and explore.
